GOLD24 Mine visit Kalgoorlie: Superpit and Mt Charlotte Underground
Friday 25 October 2024
This mine visit is sponsored generously and supported by Northern Star, the Australian owners of Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold
Mines (KCGM). A maximum of twenty geologists will be split into two groups of ten. The Golden Mile, a stretch of gold-bearing
reefs much longer than a mile, has played a pivotal role in establishing Kalgoorlie as one of the world’s premier gold districts.
The Golden Mile is arguably the richest piece of real estate on the planet. The Golden Mile and underground Mt Charlotte mine
have an endowment of 97 million troy ounces of gold.
This visit is strictly limited to geologists who are also registered for at least one other Gold24 event (symposium, short course
or field trip).
Participants will be alcohol and drug tested and are required to complete successfully a safety induction.
Anyone not familiar with Australian mine site protocols is asked to contact us directly and in advance. For field trips and mine
visit please bring your own steel toe-cap boots, sunhat, long trousers, and long sleeve shirts. (If traveling from overseas and
this is difficult email us.) HiVis jackets, gloves, eye protection and hard hats will be supplied, as will underground PPE.
Where: The mine visit is timed to dovetail with the early morning Qant as flight from Perth to Kalgoorlie (typically departing PER
06.30, arriving KAL 07.35). Make your own flight booking, and book early. (There is no such thing as a cheap flight to
Kalgoorlie.) Participants will be transferred from the airport by bus to the KCGM training centre before visits to the
Superpit and underground Mt Charlotte.
