GOLD24 Field trip Kalgoorlie: Outcrop geology in the Kalgoorlie mineral field

Too many times a geologist is introduced to a project with the comment “There is a drilling rig heading to the prospect located
in the Kalgoorlie Mineral Field, here is the drill programme, here are some logging sheets and rock codes, here is some
literature to read”.
This one-day field trip will take participants to key localities that expose the main stratigraphic units of the Kalgoorlie
Mineral Field. We discuss field features that can be used to identify the units in relation to their significance to identifying
potential zones of gold mineralisation.
Note: As we will be on mining leases participants may be alcohol and drug tested and required to successfully complete a
safety induction. For the field trip please bring your own steel toe-cap boots, sunhat, long trousers, and long sleeve shirts.

Where: Outside Railway Motel, Forrest Street, Kalgoorlie (opposite train station). Travel will be in a bus.

Ivan has over 30 years experience as a hands-on field geologist. After starting as an underground geologist on the Golden Mile
he worked on various sites around WA & NT including Telfer, Tennant Creek, Leonora, Laverton, Kambalda, and Norseman. Ivan
spent the fair share of time sitting on drilling rigs, logging chips and core and wandering around soil sampling, mapping, and
sampling outcrops trying to identify stratigraphy, alteration assemblages and structural features to identify potential zones
of gold mineralisation. Ivan is a resident of Kalgoorlie, and a Distinguished Toastmaster.
