AIG Vic: Victoria’s minerals industry 170 years on from the Eureka Stockade

Victoria’s minerals industry 170 years on from the Eureka Stockade: Discuss.

A panel discussion on Victorian Regulations – where we’ve been and where we’re heading!

On December 3, 1854, miners clashed with authorities at the Eureka Stockade in Ballarat, a rebellion triggered by the treatment of miners in Vcitoria.

Three days prior, at Bakery Hill, a meeting set the agenda and documented the miners wants.

Now, 170 years later, at the closest pub we can find to the Bakery Hill site,  is an opportunity to return to bakery hill and revisit the conversation (not the conflict) and have a discussion on where Victoria is at as a mining and exploration jurisdiction.

Three panellists – a politically active lawyer , a mining advocate and a geologist will tackle some of the issues facing mining and exploration in Victoria, perhaps for another 170 years.

Panellists

The three of these panelists have view mining and exploration in Victoria through different prisms.

  • Jordan Dittloff is a lawyer in Ballarat, and is a senate candidate for the 2025 federal election.
  • James Sorahan is Executive Director at MCA
  • Lisa Gibbons is General Manager at Southern Cross Golds’ emerging Sunday Creek Project.
