SA AIG Geopub

South Australian AIG Geopub

Thursday 5th October, 6pm – 7:30pm (talks starts 6.30).
Coopers Alehouse, 316 Pulteney Street, Adelaide.
For geologists, geophysicists and students -everyone is welcome!

We’re back! SA #AIG #Geopub is on, Thursday 5th October at the Coopers Alehouse, Adelaide.

“Things I wish I knew” –well, isn’t that the lament of the century! But don’t live in ignorance folks, come and hear
some new ideas and make that regret list just a little bit shorter. Hear the best bits about Skarns, multi-element
assays, translithoshperic faults and copper porhyries, VHMS, and intrusion related Au-Cu.

Four really smart people from all over the world are descending on Adelaide to enlighten us. Zeb, Vini, Angela
and Alex from CODES – Centre for Ore Deposit and Earth Sciences are visiting S.A. supported by Society of Economic
Geologists, Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG), BHP, Hillgrove Resources, First Quantum Minerals, Fleet
Space Technologies, Dynamics G-Ex, Department for Energy and Mining, South Australia, Datarock, Resolution
Minerals Ltd, and University of South Australia.

And after the official talks, there will be lots more to talk about over a drink and pizza.

Speakers

Vinicius da Cruz and Angela Costa (CODES, PhD)

Presentation Title: Regional Research Collaboration for Critical Metals in Tasmania
Bio: Vinicius and Angela are geologists from Brazil who recently started their PhD journey in CODES as part of an initiative for critical metals in Tasmania, both projects are related to the characterization of mineral deposits.
Vinicius is currently studying the VHMS orebodies from Rosebery in Northwest Tasmania. Previously, Vinicius concluded his master and honours thesis in the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, his research was focused on the description and interpretation of volcaniclastic and sedimentary rocks from the Parana-Etendeka igneous province and their paleoenvironmental significance.
Angela is developing her thesis with the W skarn system from Grassy, King Island. Before moving to Australia, Angela was working in the mining industry in Brazil, with experience as mine geologist for copper deposits in Carajas and, more recently, as a generative exploration geologist for Anglo American focused on the potential for Ni-Cu-PGE deposits. She concluded her bachelors and honours thesis in the Universidade de Sao Paulo, her research was focused on understanding the hydrothermal alteration and crustal levels for three deposits from Carajas Southern Copper Belt.

Zebedee Zivkovic (CODES, PhD)

Presentation Title: Trace element composition from whole rock analysis.
Presentation Subtitle: Things I wish I knew when I was an exploration geologist.
Bio: Zeb is an exploration geologist with experience working in Western Australia across a range of geological terranes and commodities. A keen interest in geochemistry while working developed into a PhD when the opportunity arose to move to Tasmania to study at CODES. Zeb is currently writing up his thesis on trace-element systematics in whole rock geochemical analysis and its application to exploration of magmatic-hydrothermal metal deposits.

Alex Farrar (CODES, PhD)

Presentation Title: Are translithospheric faults real? A journey from industry to academia and back again.
Bio: Alex Farrar recently submitted his Ph.D. thesis through CODES, whose research focused on the link between structure, tectonics, and giant porphyry copper formation in the central Andes, using data analytics to bridge these disciplines. Alex is Principal Geologist – Predictive Exploration with First Quantum Minerals, conducting greenfield porphyry copper exploration and sediment hosted copper exploration around the world.
