Rio Tinto Iron Ore Expansion Projects (RTIOEP), a business unit established to manage a growing portfolio of projects and studies within Australia and throughout the world, has a variety of major projects underway to increase mine production, power generation and port capacity.

This Perth based Senior Geologist - Mine Lease Drilling position requires a qualified professional to develop and manage value adding projects to improve geological knowledge, planning and systems.  The Mine Lease Drilling department provides a combination of technical advice, planning and operational support in the areas of Mine Geology to all Pilbara Iron mine sites, with main focus on short to medium term.

As the Senior Geologist you will drive the Geological input required to support mine operations and development, mainly in the areas of reserve optimisation and extension and product quality. Extensive resource modelling skills and an ability to interface between both Mine Operations and Resource Development is fundamental to your success in this role.

This role calls for high calibre individuals, who have a passion for understanding and explaining all aspects associated with the technical requirements for geological support of mining developments.

To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following;

    • Extensive exposure to Geological Modelling and Resource target generation
    • Mining experience, particularly in open cut and bulk commodities; iron ore and/or coal
    • Knowledge and experience in Geological data collection, analysis and interpretation, modelling and reporting
    • Experience with sampling, quality analysis and quality control
    • Ability to negotiate and effectively influence the behaviours of others
    • High level of PC literacy
    • Ability to work safely at all times, complying with Iron Safe safety standards
    Tertiary qualified in Geology or a related discipline, the ideal candidates will have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to work effectively as part of a team or autonomously. Applicants with extensive exposure to Mine Geology and Pilbara Geology and contract management experience will be highly regarded.
