2007-2008 Review

2007/08 was a busy year for the Qld branch with a variety of activities run.

July 2007
- Joint AIG/AusIMM lunch meeting presenting an update on the JORC Code (several speakers).

September 2007
- AIG Student night at QUT campus with ~80 geoscience students attending from both QUT and UQ.  Five presentations were given by recent graduates.
- Joint AIG/AusIMM lunch meeting on Gold in the Drummond Basin (Andrew Vigar).

October 2007
- AIG Professional Development workshop in Brisbane on JORC Reporting standards, attended by 26 participants.

November 2007
- AIG Professional Development workshop in Mt Isa on JORC Reporting standards, attended by 18 participants.
- AIG/BEDG* evening talk on Uranium in Queensland (Vic Wall).
- AIG Professional Development workshop in Brisbane on QA/QC practices and procedures, attended by 20 participants.

December 2007
- Mineral Industry Christmas parties in Brisbane and Townsville, enjoyed by over 250 people.

February 2008
- AIG/BEDG* evening talk on Geoscience Data Analysis Techniques (Stephen Fraser).

March 2008
- AIG Professional Development workshop in Brisbane on Introduction To GIS For Geologists, attended by 16 participants.

April 2008
- Joint AIG/GSA/ASEG* evening talk on Submarine Massive Sulphide Deposits (several staff from Nautilus Minerals).

May 2008
- Joint AIG/AusIMM evening talk on Exploration and Mining Challenges in Greenland (Jon Steen Petersen).
- AIG Student night at UQ campus with ~70 geoscience students attending from both UQ and QUT.  Six presentations were given by recent graduates through to 'old hands'.

June 2008
- AIG Annual Dinner and AGM.  Guest Speaker (Professor Chris Moran) gave a thoughtful and confronting presentation on Sustainability And Mining.
